Ditto Card Facts & History
5 facts about this card
Card History
Fossil Ditto is a genuine oddity in early WotC design because it was the first Pokémon card ever printed with no attacks of its own, relying entirely on its Transform Pokémon Power to mimic the Defending Pokémon.
In-Game
This card’s Pokédex text is lifted from Pokémon Red and Blue, tying the holo directly to Ditto’s original Game Boy identity as the Transform Pokémon that copies an enemy’s genetic code.
Card History
Ditto’s Pokémon Power was so tricky for the era that this card was left out of the Pokémon Trading Card Game Game Boy title because its effect was considered difficult to program.
Artist
The artwork is by Keiji Kinebuchi, one of the defining illustrators of the original Wizards era, giving this holo the soft, experimental look collectors instantly associate with vintage Pokémon.
Set Lore
Ditto debuted in the Fossil expansion, the third English Pokémon TCG set, which first released on October 10, 1999 and helped cement the mysterious, discovery-driven feel of the early hobby.
