How scan-to-price actually works

A scanner is only useful if it tells you the truth about the card in your hand, so Double Holo splits the identification problem into two paths instead of forcing every card through the same process. A graded slab already carries a unique cert number printed right on the label, so the app reads that number and matches it to an exact, verified card and grade. A raw or sealed card has no cert number to read, so the app identifies it visually instead, matching the card's image against Double Holo's catalog.

Getting the identification right matters because the price that follows depends entirely on it. A PSA 10 and a PSA 9 of the same card are two different products, price-wise, and a raw copy is priced differently again. Once the app knows exactly which card, and which grade if it's slabbed, it looks up that card's current market price rather than showing a generic number for the whole card. Identification is generally reliable, but it is still worth a second look against the card in your hand, especially for close variants and reprints where the difference between two prices can come down to a small design detail.

For graded slabs, that price comes from a recency-weighted average of recent trusted sales in that exact grading company and grade, the same methodology behind Double Holo's pokemon card price tracker and every other graded price on the platform, so the number you see scanning a card matches the number you would see looking it up manually.

None of this depends on a subscription. Scanning a card and seeing its price is a free feature of the Double Holo app, available to any signed-in account, whether you are checking a single card out of curiosity or comping a whole stack before deciding what to buy or sell.
