Ditto [1st Edition] Card Facts & History
5 facts about this card
Card History
Fossil Ditto is one of the strangest early holo rares because it was the first Pokémon card printed with no attacks at all, relying entirely on its Transform Pokémon Power to become the Defending Pokémon.
In-Game
This card’s gimmick is a direct translation of Ditto’s signature move Transform from the video games, and even its flavor text is lifted from the Pokémon Red and Blue Pokédex entry.
Card History
Ditto’s Transform effect was so tricky in the early era that Fossil Ditto was left out of the Game Boy Pokémon Trading Card Game because its Pokémon Power was considered difficult to program.
Artist
The card’s distinctive CGI-style artwork comes from Keiji Kinebuchi, one of the defining visual voices of the original Wizards-era TCG.
Set Lore
As card #3 in Fossil, Ditto sits near the front of the third main Pokémon TCG expansion, a 62-card set that helped define the vintage Wizards era.
