Oddball spikes dominate the board, but sealed EV and grading spreads still matter

Today’s tape looks noisy, not healthy. The biggest 7-day gainers and losers are almost all thin-print outliers, with several cards posting absurd near-1000% jumps or 99.9% collapses that read more like bad comps getting cleared than real market repricing.

The cleaner signal is elsewhere: sealed math still favors selective ripping, especially Shining Legends at a 2.68x pack EV ratio, while collector attention keeps drifting toward low-pop promos and niche Japanese hits where grading spreads are still huge.

Even allowing for data distortion, that spread is enormous and tells you trophy-style promo demand is still very real. Lower-ticket names like Beedrill, Houndour, and Hoppip also show strong slab premiums, which is a sign collectors still want clean vintage and quirky character cards if the buy-in stays cheap.

Social chatter is scattered, but ex nostalgia is getting traction.

Sentiment improved on Mega Emboar ex to 80 and on Gyarados EX to 70. Mention counts are tiny, so this is early smoke, not a confirmed trend, but the direction fits what we’ve seen lately, collectors are willing to revisit splashy ex-era style cards when prices haven’t already run. On the flip side, Mega Feraligatr ex and Poliwhirl Reverse Holo slipped into negative sentiment, showing the market still picks winners very selectively.
