Older singles keep ripping while sealed stays weak

Vintage and mid-era chases surged again, but most modern pack math still looks rough.

Today's market still looks split, and it's not subtle anymore. Older singles, oddball promos, and mid-era chase cards posted another round of huge 30-day gains, while sealed product sentiment stayed soft and pack value on most modern sets remained underwater.
That lines up with yesterday's read. Collectors are still paying up for scarcity, character appeal, and hard-to-gem cards, but they're getting pickier on sealed unless the expected value is way out of line in their favor.
Top stories
Vintage and mid-era singles are still the strongest part of the market.
Skyla from BREAKpoint climbed 149.28% to $53.61, Gyarados GX from Crimson Invasion jumped 146.93% to $81.29, and Rayquaza EX from Roaring Skies rose 147.45% to $41.78. This isn't one set getting hot, it's broad demand across XY, Sun and Moon, and older vintage-adjacent cards. When that many cards from different eras move together, it usually means collectors are chasing character cards and low-supply singles, not reacting to one headline.
PSA 10 spreads are telling collectors where the real scarcity sits.
Some of today's biggest gainers still have huge room between raw and gem mint prices. Rayquaza EX at $41.78 raw versus a $1,913.70 PSA 10 average is the loudest example. Venomoth 1st Edition Jungle is only $13.21 raw, but PSA 10 averages $305.86. White Kyurem EX sits at just $5.45 raw with a PSA 10 average of $263.66. That kind of gap keeps binder copies moving, because people see a cheap entry and a real grading prize if the card is clean.
Modern and recent cards are getting sold into strength, not chased.
The loser list leans modern or recently hyped material. Entei from Paldean Fates fell 47.79% to $12.58. Umbreon V from Japanese Eevee Heroes dropped 48.86% to $38.36. Chaos Rising cards like Cinccino ex and Xerneas were also cut nearly in half over 30 days. That's a pretty clear message, buyers are still interested in name-brand cards, but they don't want to overpay for fresh supply or hype that ran too fast.
Sealed product sentiment is slipping, and the EV data backs it up.
Social chatter around booster boxes and prerelease product turned negative, with booster box sentiment readings at 0.0 and -45.0, plus prerelease box sentiment at -20.0. The math explains why. Journey Together and Destined Rivals both show pack EV ratios of 0.72x, meaning expected pull value is still about 28% below pack cost. The one outlier is 30th Celebration at 2.97x, which is absurdly strong on paper and should keep attention on any available sealed there.
Mew is quietly getting healthier sentiment.
Mew posted improving sentiment at 72.5 across four mentions, one of the cleaner positive signals in today's data. That's not a flood of chatter, but it's enough to matter because Mew tends to attract both players and collectors. Team Rocket's Moltres ex also improved to a 70.0 sentiment score, though off just one mention, so that's more of a watchlist item than a confirmed trend.
Today's movers90 day trend
Gainers
Rayquaza EX, Roaring Skies, $41.78, up 147.45%Rayquaza EX · Pokemon Roaring SkiesNM$41.78PSA 10$1913.70+5.0%
This is the card that stands out most. A raw under $50 with a PSA 10 average near $1,914 is exactly the kind of spread that gets collectors ripping through old boxes and flipping binders. The move makes sense, and it doesn't look finished if clean raw supply stays thin.
Mega Lopunny & Jigglypuff GX, Cosmic Eclipse, $83.71, up 148.92%Mega Lopunny & Jigglypuff GX · Pokemon Cosmic EclipseNM$83.71PSA 10$345.37+26.5%
Cosmic Eclipse keeps proving it has legs. Character pairings, tag team nostalgia, and sealed scarcity all feed into singles demand. This one isn't cheap anymore, but the rise fits the broader strength in premium Sun and Moon cards.
Raikou Reverse Holo, Skyridge, $139.99, down 48.91%Raikou [Reverse Holo] · Pokemon SkyridgeNM$139.99PSA 10$2742.82+40.0%
This one contradicts the broad vintage strength story, and that's why it's interesting. Skyridge usually gets bought on rarity alone, but expensive niche holos and reverse holos can gap down hard when just a few sales hit. If more clean copies surface, the premium compresses fast. I'd wait for the dust to settle.
Decliners
Skyla, BREAKpoint, $53.61, up 149.28% in 30 daysSkyla · Pokemon BREAKpointNM$53.61PSA 10$432.19-3.6%
This looks like a classic trainer-card catch-up move. Full-art trainers remain one of the most reliable collector lanes, and Skyla checks the boxes, recognizable character, older era, and not easy to find clean anymore. At $432.19 in PSA 10, the slab market says raw copies may still have room if condition is strong.
Shining Rayquaza, Japanese Shining Legends, $40.00, down 48.56%Shining Rayquaza · Pokemon Japanese Shining LegendsNM$40.00PSA 10$570.42-31.4%
This drop is harsh, but it may be closer to a reset than a collapse. Rayquaza usually doesn't stay cheap for long, especially on a shiny treatment, but the market clearly rejected prior pricing. Watch for stabilization before calling a bottom.
Grading spotlight90 day trend
Darkrai Reverse HoloDarkrai [Reverse Holo] · Pokemon Great EncountersNM$20.01PSA 10$749.99+229.7%
Raw copies average $20.01, while PSA 10 averages $749.99. That's a 782% ROI with a 41.4% gem rate, which is high enough to make this more than a lottery ticket. Among today's grading names, this is the cleanest mix of upside and realistic hit rate.
Light DragonairLight Dragonair · Pokemon Japanese Darkness, and to LightNM$18.88PSA 10$458.00+9.9%
Raw is $18.88 and PSA 10 averages $458.00, good for 783% ROI. The gem rate is 24.1%, so it's tougher than Darkrai, but the entry price is low enough that disciplined cherry-picking still makes sense. I'd only send very clean copies, though. This isn't a bulk submission card.

Community Pulse

Collectors are still talking like singles hunters, not sealed chasers. The strongest positive chatter today went to Mew, with sentiment improving to 72.5, and that usually spills into both raw singles and slabs if the conversation keeps building.

On the other side, booster box talk turned negative again. That's not just vibes. It matches the ugly pack EV on Journey Together and Destined Rivals. People know when a box feels like a brick, and right now a lot of modern sealed has that reputation.

Sentiment direction today is pretty clear, positive on selective character cards, negative on most sealed unless the numbers are impossible to ignore.
