Collectors keep chasing singles over sealed

Older GX cards and promos are ripping while modern pack value stays weak

The split market from yesterday is still very much alive this morning. Collectors are still paying up for older singles, niche promos, and hard-to-gem cards, while modern ripping math looks rough, with Destined Rivals and Journey Together both sitting at just 0.7x pack EV.
That gap matters. Money is flowing into cards people want to own and grade, not boxes people want to crack, and today's biggest gainers back that up almost card for card.
Top stories
Older GX cards are still on a tear.
Gyarados GX from Crimson Invasion climbed 148.16% over the last 30 days to $81.29, and Alolan Ninetales GX from Guardians Rising jumped 147.35% to $6.90. This isn't random. Collectors are circling late Sun and Moon era cards with low clean-copy supply, and PSA 10 prices are still far above raw, with Gyarados GX at $668.75 in PSA 10 and Ninetales at $119.53. The raw market is catching up to slab prices, but it hasn't closed the gap yet.
Promos are acting stronger than sealed product.
Teal Mask Ogerpon Pokemon Center promo is up 149.77% in 30 days to $21.42, with PSA 10 copies averaging $209.64. That's a loud signal. Buyers still want exclusive stamped promos with clear grading upside, even while broader sealed sentiment is slipping. The sentiment tracker also shows "Booster Box" trending down at -20, which lines up with the weak pack EV in current modern sets.
Japanese and older collector pieces keep getting pulled higher.
Lance's Dragonite from Japanese Vs rose 149.49% to $185.00, while PSA 10 copies are averaging $1,730.33. That's not flipper action, that's collector demand meeting thin supply. When a card like this moves that hard and the slab price still sits nearly 9.4x above raw, it usually means buyers don't expect fresh supply to show up in volume.
Black Bolt's early spike is still unwinding.
Tynamo from Black Bolt dropped 49.6% over 30 days to $16.93. That's a sharp comedown, but not a surprising one. Newer cards that run too hot out of the gate usually give a lot back once more copies hit the market. Even so, PSA 10 is still averaging $290.88, so the slab market hasn't fully reset to match raw pricing yet. That's a gap to watch.
Pack EV still says don't rip blindly.
30th Celebration is the clear outlier at 2.05x pack EV, a 105% margin, while Destined Rivals and Journey Together both sit at negative 30% margins. That's about as clean a split as you'll see. If you're opening product for value, 30th Celebration is the only one here with favorable math. The rest are collector holds at best, not smart rips.
Today's movers90 day trend
Gainers
Gyarados GX, Crimson Invasion, $81.29, up 148.16%Gyarados GX · Pokemon Crimson InvasionNM$81.29PSA 10$668.75+5.0%
This is the kind of move that gets attention fast. The PSA 10 average at $668.75 says high-grade demand is doing the heavy lifting, and raw copies are now being repriced upward. If you own near-mint raws, this is a good time to be picky about condition and not sell too cheaply.
Koga's Trap, Unbroken Bonds, $37.09, up 148.57%Koga's Trap · Pokemon Unbroken BondsNM$37.09PSA 10$196.03+34.4%
Trainer full arts from late Sun and Moon have been waking up again, especially cards with character appeal and tighter mint supply than people remember. PSA 10 sits at $196.03, so there is still a slab premium, but the raw side has already moved enough that the easy money is gone.
Decliners
Teal Mask Ogerpon Pokemon Center promo, $21.42, up 149.77%Teal Mask Ogerpon [Pokemon Center] · Pokemon Scarlet & Violet PromosNM$21.42PSA 10$209.64-9.1%
Exclusive promos are still one of the cleanest collector stories in the market. This card's PSA 10 average of $209.64 keeps the grading case alive, and the promo stamp carries more weight when sealed product sentiment is weak.
Hiroshima's Pikachu SV-P, $153.09, down 49.9%Hiroshima's Pikachu/SV-P · Pokemon Japanese SV-P PromosNM$153.09PSA 10$164.80-2.1%
This looks like a cooling premium, not a collapse in interest. PSA 10 is only $164.80, which means the raw price had gotten way ahead of itself. Right now the slab market is basically telling you the raw copy isn't a bargain unless it's truly spotless.
Tynamo, Black Bolt, $16.93, down 49.6%Tynamo · Pokemon Black BoltNM$16.93PSA 10$290.88-14.2%
This is a classic post-hype reset. If more declines hit similar Black Bolt cards, today's drop won't be an isolated case, it'll be the market repricing opening-week excitement.
Grading spotlight90 day trend
Deoxys, raw $8.99, PSA 10 $661.37Deoxys · Pokemon DeoxysNM$8.99PSA 10$661.37+46.4%
On paper, this is one of the best grading setups on the board, with a 794% ROI. The catch is the gem rate is 24.3%, so you need to be selective. If you can source clean copies in person or from strong photos, this still looks underpriced raw.
Kakuna [Reverse Holo], raw $10.50, PSA 10 $671.00Kakuna [Reverse Holo] · Pokemon Fire Red & Leaf GreenNM$10.50PSA 10$671.00+4.4%
This one is wild. A 789% ROI with a 24.1% gem rate is real money if you know how to screen condition. Reverse holos from older eras keep proving the same point, low-end raw prices can hide serious slab upside because most surviving copies aren't clean enough to gem.
Bonus watch, Drowzee [Reverse Holo], raw $47.91, PSA 10 $1,000.00
The raw buy-in is higher, but 786% ROI is still huge. With a 21.8% gem rate, this is not a bulk submission card. It's a sniper buy.

Community Pulse

Social chatter looks softer around broad product talk and more positive around specific cards. "Booster Box" sentiment slipped to -20, which fits the weak EV on modern packs and the growing feeling that ripping fresh product just isn't paying right now.

On the card side, Charizard [Prerelease Staff] saw improving sentiment at +70. That's only one mention, so it's not a crowd stampede yet, but it tells you where collector attention goes when the market gets selective, scarce variants with a story. On the flip side, Team Rocket's Moltres ex and Mega Lucario Ex both showed negative sentiment, and Mega Darkrai ex was slightly negative across two mentions. That's not panic, but it does suggest buyers are being choosy outside the top chase names.
