Old singles keep running while modern cards slip

Vintage risers and grading plays led again as weak pack EV capped modern demand

Today's market still looks split in a very obvious way. Older singles, especially weird low-pop cards, vintage 1st Editions, and hard PSA 10 grades, kept climbing fast, while several modern names got hit hard over the last 30 days. Pack economics back that up too, with 30th Celebration still strong at 1.93x EV, while Destined Rivals and Journey Together sit at just 0.69x.
That matters because buyers aren't acting like casual rippers right now. They're paying up for scarcity and slab upside, and they're backing away from modern cards that don't have strong pull rates, long-term character demand, or a clean grading story.
Top stories
Vintage and oddball singles are still the cleanest part of the market.
Look at the gainers list and the pattern jumps out fast. Light Ledian 1st Edition from Neo Destiny rose 149.99% to $33.71. Sunkern from Skyridge jumped 149.57% to $9.89. Blaine's Growlithe 1st Edition climbed 148.57% to $11.84, and Giovanni's Nidorina 1st Edition added 148.37% to $5.09. These aren't headline chase cards. They're thin-supply collector cards getting dragged higher because clean copies are hard to find and PSA 10 prices are miles above raw.
Modern winners are real, but they're selective.
Luxray from Paldean Fates was up 148.93% to $11.60, with a PSA 10 average of $202.72. That's a huge raw-to-slab spread for a modern card, and it tells you collectors still want sharp-condition modern singles if the entry price is low enough. On the higher end, Slowpoke & Psyduck GX from Unified Minds gained 148.63% to $235.99, while PSA 10 copies average $1,160.40. That's not random. Tag Team nostalgia is still doing work, and buyers are treating top-condition copies like premium collector pieces now, not just old modern stock.
Newer release singles are getting repriced lower once opening supply catches up.
The steepest losers all have the same smell. Mega Dragalge ex from Chaos Rising fell 48.54% to $25.51. Cinccino ex from the same set dropped 48.50% to $47.47. Clive from Paldean Fates slid 48.96% to $21.65. That's what happens when early-listing prices get ahead of actual demand. Buyers are clearly refusing to hold inflated launch pricing unless the card has real character pull or elite rarity backing it.
Weak pack EV is still choking modern sealed enthusiasm.
Yesterday this was already the story, and today's numbers confirm it. 30th Celebration remains the outlier at 1.93x EV, which is still excellent even after slipping from 2.05x yesterday. Meanwhile Destined Rivals and Journey Together are both stuck at 0.69x. That's bad pack math, plain and simple. If ripping feels like lighting money on fire, more buyers shift to singles, and they usually shift toward cards with proven collector demand.
Sentiment is helping a few names, but not enough to save weak charts.
Charizard sentiment improved to 68.33 across 3 mentions, and Mew ex also ticked up with a 75.0 score. Dark Espeon sentiment improved too at 70.0. On the other side, Mega Lucario ex sentiment turned negative at -30.0, and the price chart agrees, with Mega Lucario ex down 48.72% to $8.96 over 30 days. That's one of those cases where the talk and the tape match.

Gainers
Luxray, Paldean Fates, $11.60, up 148.93%Luxray · Pokemon Paldean FatesNM$11.60PSA 10$202.72+7.0%
This is one of the more interesting modern movers because the raw price is still cheap enough for collectors to take a shot, but the PSA 10 average at $202.72 gives it real slab appeal. If clean copies dry up, this one can keep pushing.
Slowpoke & Psyduck GX, Unified Minds, $235.99, up 148.63%Slowpoke & Psyduck GX · Pokemon Unified MindsNM$235.99PSA 10$1160.40+31.1%
Big card, big nostalgia, and now a serious high-grade premium. PSA 10 at $1,160.40 says buyers are paying for condition, not just the artwork. This doesn't look like a quick spike to me. It looks like a repricing of a loved Tag Team card.
Tornadus, Emerging Powers, $22.98, up 146.62%Tornadus · Pokemon Emerging PowersNM$22.98PSA 10$6952.55+1.7%
The raw move is wild, but the real eye-opener is the PSA 10 average of $6,952.55. That's the kind of number that pulls every binder copy out of hiding. Be careful here though. Once people notice, supply usually shows up fast. Great card to watch, not a blind chase at today's pace.
Rayquaza VMAX, Japanese VMAX Climax, $60.57, down 48.42%Rayquaza VMAX · Pokemon Japanese VMAX ClimaxNM$60.57PSA 10$126.31+29.4%
Rayquaza usually gets bought on dips, so this kind of drop stands out. PSA 10 is only $126.31, which means the slab premium isn't doing much heavy lifting right now. Unless sentiment around Japanese high-class set singles improves, this probably stays soft.
Decliners
Clive, Paldean Fates, $21.65, down 48.96%Clive · Pokemon Paldean FatesNM$21.65PSA 10$138.45-29.1%
This looks like a textbook case of hype fading after release. If you liked it at launch prices, the market is telling you that was wrong. I'd wait for a real floor before touching it.
Grading spotlight90 day trend
CuboneCubone · Pokemon AquapolisNM$17.66PSA 10$743.19+24.1%
Raw copies average $17.66, while PSA 10 copies average $743.19. That's a headline ROI of 799%, even with a modest 24.1% gem rate. This is exactly the kind of card graders love when they can source clean copies cheap. Not easy, but the upside is obvious.
Gardevoir ex 1st EditionGardevoir ex [1st Edition] · Pokemon Japanese Miracle of the DesertNM$41.21PSA 10$1064.09+100.0%
Raw is $41.21 and PSA 10 is $1,064.09, good for 778% ROI. The key here is the 38.6% gem rate, which is much healthier than a lot of vintage-style grading plays. That's one of the better mixes of upside and hit rate on today's board.
Quick note on Spearow Reverse Holo
Raw at $10.78 and PSA 10 at $669.44 looks amazing on paper, 784% ROI, but the 18.1% gem rate is rough. Great if you're picky. A brick if you're not.

Community Pulse

The conversation is still leaning toward collector-first cards, not pack ripping. Charizard chatter improved, Mew ex sentiment turned positive, and Dark Espeon got a nice lift too, all signs that familiar names with nostalgia still pull attention fast.

On the negative side, Mega Lucario ex and Zoroark both saw weaker sentiment. That's important because Mega Lucario ex also posted one of the ugliest 30-day drops on the board. Right now, social chatter is confirming the price weakness there, not fighting it.
