Vintage singles keep ripping while modern cards slide

Old low-pop cards surged again, but most packs still look like a bad rip

The split market from yesterday didn't go anywhere. If anything, it got louder. Older singles with real scarcity kept posting absurd 30-day gains, while a batch of modern and promo cards got smoked by 48% to 49% over the same stretch.
The sealed picture is still simple. Ripping is mostly a losing bet right now, with only 30th Celebration showing positive pack expected value at 1.11x. Crown Zenith sits at 0.62x and White Flare is worse at 0.53x, so singles still look like the smarter lane unless you're holding sealed for the long game.
Top stories
Vintage and early-era scarcity is still the main story.
Umbreon Prime from Undaunted jumped 148.86% in 30 days to $575.30, and Rayquaza from Holon Phantoms climbed 149.24% to $524.92. That's not random strength. Collectors are still paying up for hard-to-find cards from sets that don't get fresh supply, and the PSA 10 numbers show how extreme the top end has become. Umbreon Prime PSA 10 is averaging $78,308.55, while Rayquaza PSA 10 sits at $22,768. Those slab prices are pulling attention back to raw copies, even as sentiment on Rayquaza itself actually slipped to -22.86 across 7 mentions. Price is outrunning mood there, which usually means supply is doing the heavy lifting.
Mid-tier older chase cards are following the same path.
It isn't just trophy-level stuff. Surfing Pikachu from WotC Promos rose 148.23% to $65.94, Will's Xatu from Japanese VS gained 149.07% to $36.90, and Latios GX from Unified Minds added 147.7% to hit $78.46. That's a broad sign that collectors are reaching down the ladder for nostalgic and low-supply cards they can still afford. When gains this big show up in both four-figure slabs and sub-$100 raws, it's usually a real demand wave, not just one whale moving a market.
Modern pull cards are still giving back hype premiums.
Mega Lucario ex dropped 48.72% to $9.44, Sunflora from Twilight Masquerade fell 48.51% to $7.20, and Aipom from Paradox Rift slid 48.07% to $26.48. That's what a cooldown looks like after early chase-card pricing gets ahead of itself. The Japanese side looks even shakier in spots, with Pikachu from Shiny Treasure ex down 48.76% to $44.55 and Quagsire SV-P off 48.44% to $11.48. If you bought modern too late, you're feeling it.
Sealed EV still says don't rip unless you love the gamble.
30th Celebration remains the only tracked set with positive pack value at 1.11x, good for an 11% margin. That's decent, but it's down from yesterday's 1.3x read, so even the best ripping setup cooled off a bit. Crown Zenith at 0.62x and White Flare at 0.53x are both underwater by a lot. The market is still rewarding smart singles buys more than pack opening.
Community chatter is turning colder on a few big names.
Sabrina's Gengar posted a -60.0 sentiment score on 15 mentions, and Mega Dragonite ex was at -53.45 on a much louder 87 mentions. That second one matters more because the volume is there. When a card gets talked about that much and the tone turns negative, it usually means people are questioning price, pull rates, or print volume. That's the kind of social shift that can drag a card lower for a while, even if the art is a hit.

Gainers
Umbreon Prime, Undaunted, $575.30, up 148.86%.Umbreon Prime · Pokemon UndauntedNM$575.30PSA 10$78308.55+29.1%
This is the cleanest example of scarcity beating common sense. At this level, buyers aren't paying for playability. They're paying for condition rarity and the Umbreon tax. I wouldn't chase after a move like this, but I also wouldn't bet against it falling apart fast unless more supply shows up.
Rayquaza, Holon Phantoms, $524.92, up 149.24%.Rayquaza · Pokemon Holon PhantomsNM$524.92PSA 10$22768.00+86.6%
The move is real, but the sentiment read is a warning sign. Social tone is down even while price screams higher. That usually means collectors respect the card but hate the current ask. Great hold if you already own it. Tough buy if you're late.
Mega Feraligatr ex, Japanese Start Deck 100 Battle Collection, $266.39, down 48.95%.Mega Feraligatr ex · Pokemon Japanese Start Deck 100 Battle CollectionNM$266.39PSA 10$214.18+15.8%
This card now has a weird setup where raw is higher than PSA 10 average at $214.18. That's a red flag. Either raw listings are stale, graded comps are lagging, or the market simply overshot and is correcting hard. I wouldn't touch raw copies until that spread normalizes.
Decliners
Surfing Pikachu, WotC Promo, $65.94, up 148.23%.Surfing Pikachu · Pokemon WoTC PromosNM$65.94PSA 10$1224.74-1.9%
This one's more interesting than it looks. It sits in that sweet spot of nostalgia, recognizability, and still-attainable raw pricing. If casual collectors keep stepping into older promos, this can stay firm longer than people expect.
Mega Lucario ex, $9.44, down 48.72%.Mega Lucario ex · Pokemon Mega Evolution PromoNM$9.44PSA 10$103.80-41.0%
Now we're getting into cheap flyer territory. The drop is ugly, but under $10 modern promos with popular Pokemon can rebound once sellers dry up. Not a conviction buy yet, but one to keep on the watchlist for stabilization.
Grading spotlight90 day trend
MarshadowMarshadow · Pokemon Cosmic EclipseNM$5.97PSA 10$349.41+1.6%
Raw copies are averaging $5.97, while PSA 10 averages $349.41. That's a headline ROI of 797%. The catch is the gem rate is only 24.5%, so this isn't a bulk-send slam dunk. Still, if you can hand-pick clean copies, the upside is real and the entry cost is cheap enough to take a few shots.
UrsaringUrsaring · Pokemon Unseen ForcesNM$17.55PSA 10$736.10+0.6%
Raw is $17.55 and PSA 10 is $736.10, good for 792% ROI. The gem rate is just 15.0%, which is brutal, but that's exactly why high-grade copies get paid. This is a condition game. If you've got a sharp eye and patience, it's one of the better grading spreads on the board today.

Community Pulse

The mood online is getting more skeptical around cards that ran too hot, too fast. Mega Dragonite ex had 87 mentions with a strongly negative score, which says people are still talking, but the tone has turned from hype to second-guessing. Sabrina's Gengar also leaned negative, though on lighter volume.

Rayquaza is the interesting one. Sentiment slipped, yet the card still posted one of the biggest gains on the board. That's a classic disconnect between social chatter and actual scarcity. Collectors may complain about the price, but somebody is still buying.
