Older singles stay hot while pack value stays weak

Collectors keep chasing select cards, but ripping sealed still looks rough

Today’s market looks a lot like yesterday’s, but the split is getting sharper. Older singles, oddball promos, and low-pop condition-sensitive cards are still getting bought hard, while sealed pack value remains weak across the board, with 30th Celebration at 0.91x EV, Crown Zenith at 0.62x, and White Flare down at 0.53x.
That tells you where buyers are focused. They want specific hits, not pack gambling. When singles are outrunning sealed this clearly, I’d rather own the card than the rip.
Top stories
Vintage and older-era singles keep leading the market.
Pawniard from Black Bolt, Groudon Gold Star from Delta Species, Rapidash from Expedition, and 1st Edition Slowpoke from Fossil all posted roughly 149% gains over 30 days. That kind of clustering matters. This isn’t one random spike, it’s a broad bid under scarce singles across multiple eras. The common thread is condition sensitivity and thinner supply in clean copies, which is also showing up in big PSA 10 spreads.
PSA 10 premiums are doing the heavy lifting.
Several of the biggest gainers have raw-to-gem gaps that are still enormous. Slowpoke 1st Edition sits at $6.45 raw versus a PSA 10 average of $578.31. Alakazam EX from Fates Collide is $12.38 raw against a $448.69 PSA 10 average. That kind of spread keeps raw copies moving because collectors and small graders see a cheap lottery ticket. It also means near-mint standards matter more than ever, because one print line can kill the whole thesis.
Modern sealed still isn’t supporting the singles market.
The best pack EV set on the board is 30th Celebration at 0.91x, which still means expected value trails pack cost by 9%. Crown Zenith sits at 0.62x and White Flare at 0.53x. So even with singles running, sealed math says most product is still a bad rip. That’s an important contradiction for anyone expecting broad strength. This market is rewarding selective buying, not opening boxes.
The big loser says buyers are getting pickier.
Mewtwo GX from Japanese GX Ultra Shiny dropped 49.85% over 30 days to $77.70, while its PSA 10 average is $268.32. That’s a real reset, not a tiny pullback. It looks like buyers are moving away from cards that had easier hype and toward scarcer, harder-to-replace pieces. If a card doesn’t have real collector urgency behind it, people are letting it slide.
Social sentiment is cooling on a few headline names.
Mega Dragonite ex posted a sharply negative sentiment score of -45.65 across 93 mentions, by far the loudest discussion bucket in the data. Mega Charizard Y ex also leaned negative, and even Gengar EX sentiment softened. That doesn’t always mean prices crash tomorrow, but it usually means the easy upside is gone for now. The one small bright spot is Zoroark, which turned positive, though on very light mention volume.
Today's movers90 day trend
Gainers
Groudon Gold Star, Delta Species, $2,339.99, up 149.82%.Groudon [Gold Star] · Pokemon Delta SpeciesNM$2339.99PSA 10$4235.53+131.7%
This is the most important move on the sheet. A high-end vintage chase card doubling is not casual speculation. It points to serious collector money coming back into iconic ex-era grails. PSA 10 average is $4,235.53, so even after the run, top-condition copies still carry a premium that buyers are willing to respect.
Decliners
Pawniard, Black Bolt, $6.97, up 149.09% in 30 days.Pawniard · Pokemon Black BoltNM$6.97PSA 10$218.09-24.2%
This is the kind of move that starts as a throw-in card and turns into a real watchlist name. The PSA 10 average of $218.09 is doing a lot of the work here. Raw buyers are clearly hunting clean copies, and once that starts, low-dollar cards can move fast because supply dries up overnight.
Baxcalibur, Paldea Evolved, $31.63, up 149.51%.Baxcalibur · Pokemon Paldea EvolvedNM$31.63PSA 10$357.57-25.4%
This one stands out because it’s modern, not vintage. The PSA 10 average is $357.57, which suggests condition-sensitive modern illustration and specialty cards still have room if gem supply is tight. I’d be careful chasing after a move this steep, but it confirms that not all modern is dead, only the overopened stuff.
Alakazam EX, Fates Collide, $12.38, up 148.97%.Alakazam EX · Pokemon Fates CollideNM$12.38PSA 10$448.69-10.9%
This looks like one of the cleaner value stories in the market. At $12.38 raw versus $448.69 in PSA 10, people aren’t buying this for binder copies. They’re buying grading shots. If you can source truly clean copies, this still makes sense.
Mewtwo GX, Japanese GX Ultra Shiny, $77.70, down 49.85%.Mewtwo GX · Pokemon Japanese GX Ultra ShinyNM$77.70PSA 10$268.32-0.9%
This is the warning sign today. The card still has a respectable PSA 10 average at $268.32, but the raw market got hit hard. That usually happens when too many copies come out at once or when buyers decide a card isn’t special enough at the old price. I wouldn’t rush to catch this falling knife yet.
Grading spotlight90 day trend
Alolan Ninetales Cracked IceAlolan Ninetales [Cracked Ice] · Pokemon Burning ShadowsNM$5.99PSA 10$350.00-25.2%
Raw copies average $5.99, while PSA 10 copies average $350. That’s a listed ROI of 798%, even with a modest 21.7% gem rate. This is a classic cheap-entry grading play. The catch is obvious, cracked ice surfaces can be brutal, so you need to be picky. But at this raw price, the risk is still attractive.
Celebi 1st EditionCelebi [1st Edition] · Pokemon Neo RevelationNM$31.50PSA 10$863.94+28.3%
Raw is $31.50, PSA 10 average is $863.94, for a 795% ROI with a 28.9% gem rate. That gem rate is healthier than a lot of vintage plays, which makes this one more than just a dream slab target. If you can inspect copies in person, this is one of the better vintage grading setups on the board today.

Community Pulse

Collector chatter is leaning cautious on the flashy modern names and more confident on older cardboard. Mega Dragonite ex drew the most attention with 93 mentions, but sentiment was clearly negative, which usually means people are arguing over price weakness, overhype, or too much supply hitting the market.

Gengar EX and Mega Charizard Y ex also skewed negative, so the mood around big-name chase cards isn’t universally bullish right now. On the flip side, Zoroark sentiment improved, but only on two mentions, so I wouldn’t treat that as a major signal yet. The real takeaway is that the community still likes cards, just not every card at every price.
