Older singles keep running while packs stay weak

Vintage and GX cards surged again, but pack EV got worse across major sets

Today looks like an extension of yesterday, but the split is even clearer. Buyers are still chasing specific older singles, especially vintage 1st Edition cards and late Sun and Moon GX names, while ripping sealed product makes less and less sense on raw expected value.
The numbers back it up. 30th Celebration pack EV fell to 0.69x, Crown Zenith sits at 0.61x, and White Flare is down at 0.53x. Meanwhile, cards like Metagross GX, Pheromosa GX, and 1st Edition Starmie all posted roughly 147% to 149% gains over the last 30 days.

Metagross GX, Guardians Rising, $39.71, up 148.37% in 30 daysMetagross GX · Pokemon Guardians RisingNM$39.71PSA 10$399.99+22.7%
This is the kind of move that usually starts with low supply and ends with people realizing PSA 10 copies are already expensive. With a PSA 10 average of $399.99, raw copies under $40 still don’t look crazy if clean copies are hard to source.
Pheromosa GX, Ultra Prism, $21.67, up 146.81%Pheromosa GX · Pokemon Ultra PrismNM$21.67PSA 10$263.99+13.9%
This one still has room if the current GX catch-up trade keeps going. A PSA 10 average of $263.99 gives it a strong grade spread, and the raw price is still low enough for collectors to jump in without much hesitation.

Don’t confuse this with a dead card. It’s a reset. But after a drop this hard, I’d wait for the market to settle before buying raw unless the copy is truly clean.

1st Edition Starmie, Base Set, $46.23, up 148.98%
Vintage commons and uncommons in true high grade have been underpriced for years. The PSA 10 average of $971.35 is the real story here. Once collectors notice that gap, raws move fast.
1st Edition Koga’s Beedrill, Gym Challenge, $144.73, up 147.96%
This is a serious vintage repricing move. A PSA 10 average of $9,537.72 is massive, and even though raw copies are no longer cheap, the grade premium explains why buyers are still swinging at nice copies.

Community Pulse

The mood online turned colder around Dragonite and Charizard names today. Mega Dragonite ex had the biggest sentiment slide with 93 mentions, which makes that drop more meaningful than the low-volume dips on cards like Mega Zygarde ex or Charizard V.

Overall sentiment direction is negative on the flashy modern names, while the market data is strongest on older singles. That’s a useful contradiction. Social attention is fading in one pocket of the hobby, but actual money is still showing up for vintage and GX cards with grade upside.
