30th Celebration kept sealed in the lead

Anniversary reveals drove sealed demand while cheap singles and oddball vintage ran hot

This week had a pretty clear split. 30th Celebration kept pulling collector attention toward sealed product with reveal after reveal, while singles action was much more selective, mostly in cheap runners, promo names, and weird low-supply vintage cards. At the same time, buyers got stricter on what they would actually pay up for, especially in Japanese singles, overhyped raw vintage, and modern products with weak pack value.
Top stories
30th Celebration was the week's main driver, and it helped sealed more than singles.
That theme showed up almost every day. It started with the Day and Night Pikachu ex SIR reveal on Monday, then kept building with Reshiram, Zekrom, Unown, Drifloon, the Legendary Birds, Ho-Oh, Lugia, and then Kyogre, Groudon, Zacian, and Zamazenta later in the week. Add in the Ultra-Premium Collection tie-ins with Espeon ex and Umbreon ex, and the message was simple: collectors want exposure to the set as a whole. Pre-release demand looks strongest in sealed, not in random early singles.
Nostalgia worked, but only in the right places.
Lugia got the cleanest sentiment bump after Thursday's reveal, scoring 58 across 5 mentions. Promo chatter also picked up hard once the Worlds Pikachu retail promo started hitting stores on Saturday. But this wasn't a rising-tide week. Marnie/S-P climbed 143.63% over 30 days to $67.99 because collectors still trust recognizable promo names, while Charizard talk softened across the weekend. Mega Charizard EX held up well in sentiment, but Charizard GX, Lance's Charizard, and Dark Charizard 1st Edition all leaned negative.
Cheap singles and oddball vintage posted the loudest percentage gains, but a lot of it was thin-market action.
We saw the same pattern all week. Neo Destiny names like Ledyba and Light Ledian were up about 145% early in the week. Then came Groudon Gold Star, Misty, Krabby 1st Edition, Nidorino 1st Edition, and a run of low-dollar names like Eiscue ex at $6.21, up 146.41%, and Pinsir from Aquapolis at $6.85, up 145.16%. These are real moves, but they don't mean the whole market is breaking out. They mean supply got cleaned out in very specific cards.
Japanese singles and bad raw setups got repriced fast.
Saturday and Sunday made that crystal clear. Pikachu from Dream League fell 48.65% over 30 days to $143, Mew EX 1st Edition from Dragon Blast dropped 49.02% to $53.64, and Pikachu Tea Party sat down 48.99% over 30 days even after staying up 12.5% on the week. The best warning sign was Dark Machamp 1st Edition at $128.53 raw while PSA 10 averages were only $119.76. That's broken pricing. Buyers are finally refusing to pay any price just because a card is old or hyped.
Sealed math stayed disciplined, even while sealed sentiment improved.
Collectors liked sealed more this week, but they weren't blindly ripping. Shining Legends kept showing the strongest pack EV all week, moving from 2.98x to 3.03x by Sunday. White Flare stayed around break-even at 0.97x to 0.98x, and Crown Zenith sat at 0.68x, or about negative 32%. That's why anniversary sealed and select premium product got attention, while most current rip decisions still looked weak on paper.
This week's movers90 day trend
Gainers
Pikachu Tea Party / SM-P, $224.99, +12.5% on the weekPikachu [Tea Party] /SM-P · Pokemon Japanese Sun & Moon PromosNM$224.99+19.2%
This was one of the week's most interesting reversals. The daily data showed it down 48.99% over 30 days, but it still finished the week up 12.5%. That's what promo markets looked like all week, volatile, headline-driven, and very sensitive to collector attention. Saturday's Worlds Pikachu retail promo likely helped put established Pikachu promos back on watch.
Pikachu, Dream League, $143.00, +12.0% on the weekPikachu · Pokemon Japanese Dream LeagueNM$143.00+24.8%
Same story. The monthly chart still looked ugly after a near-49% drop, but the weekly move says buyers started nibbling once the price reset. This lines up with the broader promo and Pikachu-heavy attention from 30th Celebration and Worlds chatter.
Dragonite GX, Dragon Majesty, $26.61, -4.0% on the weekDragonite GX · Pokemon Dragon MajestyNM$26.61+27.3%
Friday framed Dragonite GX as one of the cleaner modern gainers because Dragon Majesty still has collector pull. The weekly decline says that strength isn't bulletproof. It still looks healthier than random niche spikes, but buyers aren't rewarding every recognizable name equally.
Dark Machamp 1st Edition, Team Rocket, $128.53, -2.0% on the weekDark Machamp [1st Edition] · Pokemon Team RocketNM$128.53+33.2%
The weekly move was small, but the setup matters more than the chart. Raw above PSA 10 average is not where you want to be. Sunday's brief called it out correctly, buy the slab if you want exposure, not the raw copy.
Decliners
Arctibax, Paldea Evolved, $18.26, -1.8% on the weekArctibax · Pokemon Paldea EvolvedNM$18.26-3.6%
Arctibax was one of the loudest names in the dailies, up 142.18% over 30 days, but it slipped slightly on the week. That's exactly why chasing vertical charts is dangerous. The card still has a strong PSA 10 anchor at $290.46, but the weekly fade suggests the first rush may already be cooling.
Grading spotlight90 day trend
Pikachu, POP Series 2Pikachu · Pokemon Japanese Dream LeagueNM$143.00+24.8%
Raw is $43.86, PSA 10 is $1,722.50, for a 793% ROI. That's one of the best headline spreads from this week's featured grading list. It's not easy money with a 23.4% gem rate from Sunday's context, but the upside is big enough that clean copies deserve real attention.
Bayleef Reverse Holo, Unseen ForcesBayleef [Reverse Holo] · Pokemon Unseen ForcesNM$19.99PSA 10$763.50+16.7%
Raw is $19.99, PSA 10 is $763.50, good for 798% ROI. If you want a vintage-style reverse holo target with monster slab upside, this is one of the best numbers on the board this week.
Zubat Reverse Holo, Delta SpeciesZubat [Reverse Holo] · Pokemon Delta SpeciesNM$20.48PSA 10$764.96+2.5%
Raw is $20.48 and PSA 10 is $764.96, for 795% ROI. This looks a little cleaner than Bayleef because the gem rate discussed Sunday was healthier at 26.6%. That's still condition-sensitive, but not impossible.
Hoopa EX, Ancient OriginsHoopa EX · Pokemon Ancient OriginsNM$37.17PSA 10$900.00+2.3%
Raw is $37.17, PSA 10 is $900.00, for 781% ROI. This was one of the better balanced plays of the week, solid upside without needing a miracle grade hit.

Community Pulse

The community spent most of the week talking about three things: 30th Celebration reveals, sealed product strategy, and the Worlds Pikachu promo. Sentiment on booster boxes improved from 36.92 on Monday to 45.0 by Saturday, which fits the steady shift toward sealed positioning.

Lugia got a real nostalgia lift after Thursday's reveal, while Greninja ex stayed one of the louder modern conversation points earlier in the week with 44 mentions and improving sentiment. On the negative side, Mewtwo Master Ball chatter turned sharply lower, and Charizard sentiment softened into the weekend outside of Mega Charizard EX. The mood wasn't bearish overall, just choosy. Collectors were engaged, but they clearly wanted a reason to buy.
