Vintage singles beat sealed again this week

Rayquaza, Rocket, and promo Pikachu led while modern pack math stayed ugly

This week was the same story over and over, and that consistency matters. Collectors kept buying older singles, promos, 1st Edition cards, and anything with a big PSA 10 gap, while most modern sealed product looked weak by the numbers. Journey Together and Destined Rivals sat at 0.72x early in the week and 0.71x by the weekend, while 30th Celebration stayed as the one clear sealed outlier, sliding from 2.97x to 2.46x EV but still miles ahead of everything else.
The mood was selective, not broad. Buyers weren't lifting whole sets. They were targeting specific chase cards with nostalgia, scarcity, or real grading upside.
This week's movers90 day trend
Gainers
Pikachu Reverse Holo, Burning Shadows, now $6.15, up 3.5% on the weekPikachu [Reverse Holo] · Pokemon Burning ShadowsNM$6.15+19.0%
This wasn't the flashiest move, but it fits the week's grading theme perfectly. Monday highlighted the raw at $5.94 with a PSA 10 average of $747.68. Saturday also showed sentiment improving to 60.0. Cheap raw, brutal gem difficulty, big slab reward, that's exactly the kind of card people hunted this week.
Dark Charizard 1st Edition, Team Rocket, now $181.49, down 3.0% on the weekDark Charizard [1st Edition] · Pokemon Team RocketNM$181.49+6.0%
The weekly change was slightly red, but that misses the bigger story. Friday made it one of the headline gainers at +148.1% over 30 days, and Rocket sentiment improved through the week. This is still one of the cleaner nostalgia stories on the board.
Decliners
Pikachu Gold Star, Holon Phantoms, now $900.00, down 52.6% on the weekPikachu [Gold Star] · Pokemon Holon PhantomsNM$900.00-71.9%
This was the week's biggest move, and it tells you how violent thin high-end markets can get. Monday already flagged the near-50% drop as more of a sparse-sales issue than panic selling. By week's end, the reset got even deeper. I'd treat this as a volatility story first, not a verdict on all grails.
Lugia V, Sword & Shield Promos, now $17.51, down 5.7% on the weekLugia V · Pokemon Sword & Shield PromosNM$17.51-11.9%
Sunday put this on watch because the raw-to-PSA 10 spread is absurd, $17.51 raw against a $1,259.67 PSA 10 average. The weekly dip says the market still isn't fully sold on the move, which actually makes it more interesting. If more clean-copy sales confirm scarcity, this gets a lot more attention fast.
Maushold, Paldea Evolved, now $94.43, down 3.9% on the weekMaushold · Pokemon Paldea EvolvedNM$94.43-8.6%
Wednesday framed this as one of the strangest real movers of the week, and I agree. It nearly doubled over 30 days because the slab market already treated it like a mini trophy card. The small weekly pullback doesn't break that story. It just shows how jumpy these thin modern names can be.
Grading spotlight90 day trend
Cyndaquil, ExpeditionCyndaquil · Pokemon ExpeditionNM$12.42PSA 10$405.00+52.0%
Raw is $12.42, PSA 10 is $405.00, for a projected 792% ROI. This one showed up more than once during the week for a reason. Sunday's note also gave it a 30.3% gem rate, which is strong enough to make it a real submission target if you can screen whitening and edges well.
Forretress Reverse Holo, SkyridgeForretress [Reverse Holo] · Pokemon SkyridgeNM$42.74PSA 10$961.02+79.3%
Raw is $42.74, PSA 10 is $961.02, also a 792% ROI. Saturday flagged the 33.9% gem rate, and that's the key. For an older reverse holo with real collector demand, that hit rate is good enough to matter. This looks like one of the better vintage grading plays surfaced all week.

Community Pulse

The crowd spent most of the week talking like singles buyers, not box rippers. Booster box sentiment kept coming in weak or negative, and that matched the ugly 0.72x to 0.71x EV on Journey Together and Destined Rivals.

On the positive side, Team Rocket's Moltres ex kept showing improving sentiment on light volume, Umbreon Prime trended better midweek at 54.0 to 55.0, Mew posted a healthy 72.5 on Tuesday, and Pikachu Reverse Holo improved to 60.0 by the weekend. On the negative side, Gardevoir chatter turned sour, falling to -15.0 on Thursday, -20.0 on Friday, and -25.0 on Saturday. Jirachi ex also slipped to -12.35 across 17 mentions on Sunday.

Net-net, the mood was selective but still pretty healthy for singles. People weren't leaving the market. They were just getting choosy.
