Kyurem EX Card Facts & History
5 facts about this card
Set Lore
Kyurem-EX is one of the headline Ultra Rare Pokémon-EX cards in Next Destinies, the Black & White expansion that brought Pokémon-EX into the TCG and gave collectors an early BW-era chase tied to Unova’s legendary dragons.
In-Game
Kyurem’s mystique comes from Unova lore that links it with Reshiram and Zekrom as part of the legendary Tao trio, and it later became the box mascot of Pokémon Black Version 2 and Pokémon White Version 2 through its Black Kyurem and White Kyurem forms.
Cultural Impact
Collectors love Kyurem because its lore paints it as the hollow, frozen remnant of a greater dragon, giving even its base form an eerie “incomplete legend” identity that feels different from most cover-legendaries.
Card History
Kyurem’s profile got a major boost in the BW era thanks to Pokémon the Movie: Kyurem vs. the Sword of Justice, where it was portrayed as a terrifying force powerful enough to threaten all of Unova with ice.
Artist
Kyurem-EX also carries extra art appeal for BW collectors because it was illustrated by Shizurow, a longtime TCG artist whose work stretches back to EX Crystal Guardians, linking this card to an older generation of ex-era artwork.
