Aerodactyl Card Facts & History
5 facts about this card
Card History
Aerodactyl’s Pokémon Power, Prehistoric Power, could shut off all further Evolution cards once it hit the field, giving this Fossil holo one of the most memorable lock effects in the entire early Wizards era.
In-Game
This card’s attacks and flavor are tightly tied to the games: Wing Attack is a move Aerodactyl can learn, and Bulbapedia notes that Prehistoric Power’s Japanese name matches Ancient Power, a move introduced later in Generation II that Aerodactyl also learns.
Set Lore
Fossil leaned hard into revived prehistoric Pokémon, and Aerodactyl fits that identity perfectly because the set’s Fossil mechanics required it to evolve from Mysterious Fossil rather than appear as a normal Basic Pokémon.
Artist
Kagemaru Himeno illustrated this card, and her dramatic holo-era artwork helped define the atmospheric look collectors now associate with classic WotC Fossil holos.
Cultural Impact
Aerodactyl’s Fossil holo has extra collector mystique because Wizards of the Coast selected it as one of only four official English Prerelease cards from the original era.
