Dark Hypno is one of the original Dark Pokémon from the Team Rocket expansion, the landmark set that introduced villain-themed Dark Pokémon to the Pokémon TCG and gave classic Kanto monsters a more dangerous, corrupted identity.
Set Lore
Because Team Rocket was the fifth main English expansion, pulling Dark Hypno connects collectors to one of the hobby’s earliest big twists: the first set built around Team Rocket and one of the first to feature secret cards and holo Trainer cards.
Card History
Hypno’s eerie reputation was cemented early in the anime in "Hypno’s Naptime," where its hypnotic waves were central to one of the original series’ strangest mystery episodes, making Dark Hypno feel especially on-brand for Team Rocket.
Artist
This holo was illustrated by Kagemaru Himeno, one of the most recognizable early Pokémon TCG artists, whose watercolor style has appeared on cards since Jungle and has remained beloved by long-time collectors.
In-Game
Dark Hypno’s flavor text echoes Hypno’s official Pokédex lore as a pendulum-carrying hypnotist that appears near roads and schools at dusk, which gives this card an unusually unsettling flavor even among Team Rocket holos.
