Darkrai Prism Star Card Facts & History
5 facts about this card
Card History
Darkrai ◇ is part of the Prism Star mechanic that Sun & Moon—Ultra Prism introduced to the English TCG, giving it instant collector appeal because cards with the ◇ symbol were limited to one copy per name in a deck and were sent to the Lost Zone instead of the discard pile.
Set Lore
This card comes from Sun & Moon—Ultra Prism, released on February 2, 2018, a set positioned as an alternate Sinnoh-themed expansion tied to the era of Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon.
In-Game
Darkrai’s flavor on this card mirrors its official game lore almost word-for-word: Darkrai is said to be active on nights of the new moon and to lull people to sleep with nightmares, making Abyssal Sleep a perfect mechanical match for the Mythical Pokémon’s identity.
Artist
Naoki Saito illustrated Darkrai ◇, and his name carries extra weight with collectors because he is one of the hobby’s most recognizable modern Pokémon artists, making this Prism Star feel even more like a signature-era Sun & Moon pull.
Card History
What makes Darkrai ◇ memorable in gameplay is how its Nightmare Star Ability accelerates Darkness Energy the moment it hits the Bench, while Abyssal Sleep doubles down on Darkrai’s nightmare theme by making the opponent flip two coins to wake up instead of one.
