Misty's Tears [1st Edition] Card Facts & History
5 facts about this card
Card History
Misty's Tears is one of the most infamous WotC-era Trainer cards because its artwork was changed for English release after the original Japanese illustration depicted Misty nude, making the English 1st Edition a direct piece of Pokémon TCG censorship history.
Set Lore
Gym Challenge launched in English on October 16, 2000 and capped the Gym-era spotlight on Kanto Gym Leaders, so this card comes from one of the most character-driven sets of the vintage Wizards of the Coast era.
In-Game
This card hits harder for game fans because Misty is the Cerulean City Gym Leader who awards the Cascade Badge in Pokémon Red, Blue, Yellow, FireRed, LeafGreen, and Let's Go, tying the card directly to one of Kanto's most iconic early-game battles.
Card History
For anime collectors, Misty is one of Ash's original traveling companions, which gives any vintage Misty card instant nostalgia far beyond the battlefield effect printed on it.
Artist
The card was illustrated by Ken Sugimori, Pokémon's original character designer, so pulling it feels like opening a card with artwork tied straight back to the visual identity that defined early Pokémon itself.
