Politoed [1st Edition] Card Facts & History
5 facts about this card
Card History
This Neo Discovery Politoed is famous among vintage collectors because its Frog Song Pokémon Power was translated incorrectly in English, changing the trigger from "3 or more" Pokémon in play to the stricter "more than 3."
Set Lore
Politoed stands out as part of Neo Discovery, the June 1, 2001 English set that pushed Generation II deeper into the TCG and centered its theme on the Ruins of Alph and the mysterious Unown.
In-Game
This card’s flavor text is lifted directly from Pokémon Silver, tying the pull to Politoed’s original Johto-era identity as a chorus-calling Frog Pokémon whose group song sounds like bellowing.
In-Game
Politoed itself was a Generation II evolution milestone, introduced as the alternate final evolution of Poliwhirl when traded holding a King’s Rock, which gave Johto one of its most memorable split-evolution lines.
Artist
Collectors who chase illustrator cards love this Politoed for its Tomokazu Komiya artwork, pairing one of the hobby’s most instantly recognizable vintage artists with one of Neo Discovery’s quirky Johto stars.
