5 facts about this card
Poliwag from Expedition is part of the very first English e-Reader main set, giving this humble common a place in one of the Pokémon TCG’s biggest design shifts of the Wizards era.
Like other Expedition cards, this Poliwag carried Dot Code data for the Nintendo e-Reader, and scanning it could unlock Pokédex info plus the GO, Poliwrath! mini-game.
This card was illustrated by Yuka Morii, whose signature photographed clay models helped make even common cards instantly recognizable to collectors.
Its Expedition e-Reader Pokédex entry comes from Pokémon Crystal and highlights one of Poliwag’s strangest details: the belly swirl is actually part of its visible insides showing through the skin.
Poliwag has real anime nostalgia behind it too, since Misty famously caught one in the original series before it later evolved into her Poliwhirl.
