Dark Houndoom Card Facts & History
5 facts about this card
Card History
Dark Houndoom is one of the ex-era's classic 'Dark Pokémon' throwbacks, a mechanic tied to Team Rocket that EX Team Rocket Returns revived for a new generation of collectors.
Set Lore
EX Team Rocket Returns is the seventh main expansion of the EX Series, and Dark Houndoom fits the set's identity perfectly by combining the sinister Dark Pokémon theme with Team Rocket's comeback.
In-Game
This card's brutal Fire Breath and Fire Payback attacks echo Houndoom's game lore, where its flames are said to cause pain that never goes away and its eerie presence made people associate it with the grim reaper.
Card History
Dark Houndoom is a rare design snapshot from 2004 because it is printed as both Fire and Darkness type, a striking dual-type treatment that helped certain ex-era cards feel more dangerous and experimental.
Artist
Illustrated by Nakaoka, this card leans into the feral, shadowy look that made many Team Rocket Returns cards feel less heroic and more like Pokémon turned loose by Team Rocket.
