Dark Ampharos Card Facts & History
5 facts about this card
Card History
Dark Ampharos stands out as a rare EX-era dual-type card, printed as both Lightning and Darkness in Team Rocket Returns, which gave it a distinctly villainous identity that fit the set’s comeback theme perfectly.
Card History
Its attack, Shock Bolt, is a deliberate callback to the original Dark Ampharos from Neo Destiny, giving this holo a direct line to one of the most memorable Dark Pokémon from the earlier Team Rocket era.
Set Lore
Dark Ampharos comes from EX Team Rocket Returns, the English set released on November 8, 2004, when the TCG revived Team Rocket and reintroduced Dark Pokémon to a new generation of collectors.
In-Game
Ampharos is deeply tied to Johto nostalgia because Jasmine’s famous Ampharos, Amphy, lights the Olivine Lighthouse in Gold, Silver, Crystal, HeartGold, and SoulSilver.
Artist
Illustrator Emi Miwa only contributed four Pokémon TCG artworks, and every one of them was a Dark Pokémon in EX Team Rocket Returns, making Dark Ampharos part of a tiny, highly distinctive artist portfolio.
