Dark Dragonair Card Facts & History

5 facts about this card

Card History

Dark Dragonair stands out in EX Team Rocket Returns because, unlike most Dark Pokémon in the set, it was printed as a pure Darkness-type card rather than a dual-type—an especially striking twist for a Pokémon line normally associated with Colorless typing in the TCG.

Set Lore

This card comes from EX Team Rocket Returns, the November 8, 2004 expansion built around Team Rocket’s comeback and remembered for introducing Pokémon ☆, giving the set extra historical weight for ex-era collectors.

Artist

Dark Dragonair was illustrated by Tomoaki Imakuni, one of the Pokémon TCG’s most eccentric cult-favorite contributors, whose name is tied to some of the hobby’s strangest and most memorable cards.

Card History

Its attack 'Crushing Blow' is a callback to Dark Feraligatr from Neo Destiny, linking this card to an earlier era of Dark Pokémon and giving longtime collectors a neat mechanical echo across generations.

Set Lore

If you pulled the reverse holo version, it carries the ex-era stamped treatment used in EX Team Rocket Returns, where the set logo appears in the artwork area—a detail many collectors chase specifically from this period.
