Set Lore
Energy Retrieval is part of the original Base Set, the very first Pokémon TCG expansion released in Japan on October 20, 1996 and in North America on January 9, 1999, which gives this card a direct link to the hobby’s starting line.
Card History
This Base Set print introduced Energy Retrieval as an early resource-recovery Trainer, and Bulbapedia notes that the same original-series version later returned in Base Set 2 and Legendary Collection, showing how foundational the effect was to classic deckbuilding.
In-Game
The original-series Energy Retrieval was important enough to be included in both the Game Boy Color Pokémon Trading Card Game and its sequel, giving this card a nostalgic second life beyond the tabletop.
Artist
