Froslass GL Card Facts & History
5 facts about this card
Card History
Froslass GL is a true Platinum-era SP card: Rising Rivals prints it as a Basic Pokémon with the disruptive combo of Sleep Inducer into Wake-Up Slap, giving Gym Leader flavor and fast setup in one holo slot.
Set Lore
Rising Rivals was built around high-profile Trainer battles and introduced more Gym Leader SP Pokémon, which makes Froslass GL feel like part of the set’s signature “Trainer versus Trainer” identity rather than just another standalone holo.
Artist
This card was illustrated by Atsuko Nishida, one of the most historically important Pokémon artists and the original designer of Pikachu, which gives Froslass GL an extra layer of collector prestige beyond its gameplay text.
In-Game
Froslass itself was a Generation IV evolution, debuting in Diamond and Pearl as the female-only Dawn Stone evolution of Snorunt, so this card also captures one of Sinnoh’s most memorable cross-generation additions.
Cultural Impact
Part of Froslass’s enduring appeal is its folklore-inspired identity: multiple Pokédex entries describe legends of a woman lost on an icy mountain being reborn as Froslass, echoing the eerie snow-spirit mood collectors love in its cards.
