How to evolve Eevee
Eevee is famous for having more evolution paths than any other Pokémon, and the method decides which one you get. The three original Eeveelutions use elemental stones: a Water Stone turns Eevee into Vaporeon, a Thunder Stone into Jolteon, and a Fire Stone into Flareon.
Espeon and Umbreon evolve from leveling up an Eevee with high friendship, during the day for Espeon and at night for Umbreon. Leafeon and Glaceon were originally tied to leveling up near a special Moss Rock or Ice Rock, and later games added Leaf Stone and Ice Stone options. Sylveon needs high friendship while Eevee knows a Fairy-type move.
These are the methods in the core games. A few of them have shifted between titles, so the exact requirement can depend on which game you are playing.
Will there be more Eeveelutions?
Maybe, but nothing is confirmed. Sylveon, the Fairy-type Eeveelution added in 2013, is still the most recent one, and no new Eeveelution has been announced as of August 2026. Eevee has not yet covered several types, so fans regularly speculate about what a ninth could be, but that is speculation rather than news.
What is the best Eeveelution?
There is no outright best Eeveelution, because all 8 share the same 525 base stat total. What differs is how those points are spread, so each one is suited to a different job.
Vaporeon has the highest HP and makes a bulky Water-type. Umbreon is the sturdiest, thanks to the best mix of HP and defenses in the group. Jolteon is the fastest, Flareon has the highest physical Attack, and Espeon and Glaceon share the highest Special Attack. The best choice comes down to whether you want speed, bulk, or raw offense.
Frequently asked questions
How many Eeveelutions are there?
There are 8 Eeveelutions as of August 2026: Vaporeon, Jolteon, Flareon, Espeon, Umbreon, Leafeon, Glaceon, and Sylveon. Each one is a different type, and no new Eeveelution has been added since Sylveon in 2013.
How do you evolve Eevee?
It depends which Eeveelution you want. The three original ones use elemental stones: a Water Stone for Vaporeon, a Thunder Stone for Jolteon, and a Fire Stone for Flareon. Espeon and Umbreon come from leveling up with high friendship during the day or at night, and Sylveon needs high friendship plus a known Fairy-type move.
Will there be more Eeveelutions?
Possibly, but nothing has been announced. Sylveon, added in 2013, is the most recent Eeveelution, and as of August 2026 The Pokémon Company has not revealed a ninth. Fans have long speculated about types Eevee has not covered yet, but that remains speculation.
What is the best Eeveelution?
There is no single best one: all 8 share the same 525 base stat total, just distributed differently. Vaporeon has the most HP, Umbreon is the sturdiest defensively, Jolteon is the fastest, Flareon hits hardest physically, and Espeon and Glaceon have the highest Special Attack, so the best pick depends on the role you need.
