Lapras Card Facts & History
5 facts about this card
Card History
Lapras made its Pokémon TCG debut in the Fossil expansion, so this card marks the very first time collectors could pull Lapras in English.
Set Lore
Fossil was the third English Pokémon TCG expansion, and it completed the original 150 Pokémon in card form, giving this Lapras a place in one of the most nostalgic milestone sets of the WotC era.
Artist
This card was illustrated by Ken Sugimori, Pokémon’s original character designer, which gives Fossil Lapras the classic early-franchise look that many vintage collectors chase specifically for Sugimori art.
In-Game
Lapras’s flavor text on this card echoes its original Pokédex identity as a gentle sea transport Pokémon that had been overhunted, tying the card directly to the melancholy worldbuilding of the early games.
In-Game
In the Generation II games, using Surf with most Pokémon shows the player riding a Lapras sprite, which helped cement Lapras as one of the franchise’s most iconic water-travel companions long after this card released.
