Mew [Reverse Holo] Card Facts & History
5 facts about this card
Card History
This Mew stands out in XY—Evolutions because its Neutral Shield Ability completely walls off attacks from opposing Evolution Pokémon, giving a tiny 40 HP Basic a surprisingly mischievous anti-evolution role.
Artist
The card is illustrated by Ken Sugimori, the original Pokémon character designer, which gives it the classic official-art look that many collectors instantly associate with the franchise’s earliest era.
Set Lore
Mew feels especially at home in XY—Evolutions because the set was built as a nostalgia-driven throwback to Pokémon’s earliest TCG years, making Sugimori art cards like this one hit collectors right in the Base Set memories.
In-Game
Its flavor text preserves Mew’s long-running mystique from the games by describing it as so rare that many experts still call it a mirage, reinforcing why any Mew pull feels bigger than an ordinary holo.
Cultural Impact
Mew’s cultural legend was amplified by the first Pokémon movie storyline, where the discovery of Mew’s fossil leads directly to the creation of Mewtwo, tying this peaceful-looking card to one of the franchise’s most iconic origin stories.
