Altaria [Reverse Holo] Card Facts & History
5 facts about this card
Card History
This card is a true early Altaria milestone, because Bulbapedia notes that Altaria debuted in the Pokémon TCG in EX Dragon, making this reverse holo one of the first chances collectors ever had to pull the species in English.
Set Lore
Altaria #2 comes from EX Dragon, the third main expansion of the EX Series, a set remembered for pushing Generation III dragons and Pokémon-ex into the spotlight during the e-Reader era.
In-Game
Its attack Dragon Dance is a perfect Gen III callback, since Bulbapedia identifies Dragon Dance as a move Altaria can learn in the video games, tying the card directly to Altaria’s battle identity in Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald.
Card History
Altaria was a signature Hoenn Pokémon for Gym Leader Winona, whose Altaria appeared in the anime episode "Sky High Gym Battle!", giving this EX-era card an especially strong connection to the Ruby & Sapphire period fans remember most.
Artist
Collectors also chase this card for the illustrator credit, because Atsuko Nishida is one of the franchise’s foundational artists and Bulbapedia credits her as a designer for Pikachu as well as many original Pokémon illustrations across the TCG.
