Ampharos [Reverse Holo] Card Facts & History
5 facts about this card
In-Game
Ampharos is one of Johto’s most memorable Pokémon because Jasmine’s Ampharos, Amphy, famously keeps the Olivine Lighthouse shining in Pokémon Gold, Silver, Crystal, HeartGold, and SoulSilver.
Card History
This card opens the English Platinum set at #1/127, giving Ampharos the honor of leading off the first main expansion in the Platinum Series.
Card History
Its Poké-Body, Damage Bind, is a striking control effect from the Poké-Power era because any Pokémon with damage counters on it loses access to Poké-Powers while Ampharos stays in play.
Artist
This Ampharos was illustrated by Atsuko Nishida, a foundational Pokémon artist best known as one of the key designers behind Pikachu, which gives the card extra appeal for collectors who follow iconic franchise creators.
Set Lore
Reverse Holo copies are especially distinctive in Platinum because English cards from the set were available as Reverse Holos, while the Spanish release of Platinum did not include Reverse Holos at all.
