About this card
Pichu [Prerelease Staff] Card Facts & History
5 facts about this card
Set Lore
This Staff-stamped Pichu comes from the very start of the HeartGold & SoulSilver TCG era, where Prerelease promos began using the set logo itself instead of the older plain PRERELEASE stamp, giving HGSS promos a distinct look collectors instantly recognize.
Card History
Pichu was chosen as one of the HeartGold & SoulSilver set’s official Prerelease promos, and Bulbapedia lists both the regular stamped version and the rarer Staff-stamped version for event organizers, which is exactly what gives this copy its extra collector appeal.
In-Game
Pichu is a perfect mascot for the HGSS era because HeartGold and SoulSilver famously featured the special Pikachu-colored Pichu event that unlocked the Spiky-eared Pichu in Ilex Forest, tying this baby Pokémon directly to one of the remakes’ most memorable bonuses.
In-Game
As Pokédex number 172, Pichu was one of the baby Pokémon introduced in Generation II’s original Gold and Silver games, so pulling it in the first HGSS expansion feels like a nod to Johto’s big debut generation.
Card History
This card’s playful design is pure Johto flavor: Playground floods both Benches with Basic Pokémon while Sweet Sleeping Face protects Pichu when it dozes off, making it one of the most charmingly thematic baby Pokémon cards in the set.
