Houndoom [1st Edition] Card Facts & History
5 facts about this card
Card History
This card is a landmark for Houndoom collectors because Bulbapedia notes that Houndoom debuted in the TCG in Neo Discovery, making this 1st Edition rare one of the earliest English Houndoom cards you can chase.
Set Lore
Neo Discovery is part of the early Neo era that followed Generation II’s arrival, so this card captures the moment Johto Pokémon like Houndoom were still fresh additions to the Pokémon TCG.
In-Game
The flavor text on this card echoes Houndoom’s original Pokédex lore from Pokémon Silver, where its eerie howls send other Pokémon rushing back to their nests.
Artist
This Neo Discovery Houndoom is illustrated by Shin-ichi Yoshida, and Serebii’s card database confirms the artwork credit on card #23/75.
Card History
Its attack mix is especially memorable in vintage deckbuilding because this Darkness-type Houndoom swings with Crunch while still carrying Flamethrower, reflecting the species’ signature Dark-and-Fire identity from the games.
