Houndour Card Facts & History
5 facts about this card
Card History
This Neo Discovery Houndour is one of the card’s very first appearances in the TCG, debuting in the set that introduced more Generation II Pokémon to English collectors during the Wizards of the Coast era.
Set Lore
Neo Discovery released in English on June 1, 2001 and centered on the mysteries of the Ruins of Alph, giving this Houndour a place in one of the most atmospheric early Johto-era sets.
In-Game
Its flavor text is lifted from Pokémon Silver, tying the card directly to Houndour’s in-game identity as a coordinated pack hunter that tracks prey through secretive barks.
Card History
Collectors love that this artwork and attack suite feel true to the video games: Smog is a move Houndour can learn in the main series, while Collect Fire reinforces its scrappy Fire-type identity in battle.
Artist
The card was illustrated by Aya Kusube, a longtime Pokémon contributor who has worked with the franchise since 1998, giving this early Johto rare an added layer of classic-era artist appeal.
