Houndour [1st Edition] Card Facts & History
5 facts about this card
Card History
This 1st Edition Houndour is part of Neo Discovery, the second English Neo Series expansion, and its artwork exists in both holofoil and non-holo versions—giving collectors two distinct ways to chase the same memorable early Johto card.
In-Game
The card’s flavor text is lifted directly from Houndour’s Pokémon Silver Pokédex entry, tying this card to one of Johto’s original in-game descriptions about pack hunting through secret barks.
Card History
Houndour’s pack-hunting identity wasn’t just game lore—Bulbapedia notes the anime episode "Hour of the Houndour" showed how loyal it is to its group, reinforcing the same coordinated-pack personality this card hints at.
Set Lore
Neo Discovery launched in English on June 1, 2001 and centered on Johto mysteries like the Ruins of Alph and Unown, so pulling Houndour feels like opening a time capsule from the era when Generation II was still brand new in the TCG.
Artist
Illustrated by Aya Kusube, this card captures Houndour’s prowling, eerie Johto vibe in a style that stands out from the sharper, more aggressive look many later Houndour cards would adopt.
