Houndour Card Facts & History
5 facts about this card
Set Lore
This Houndour comes from EX Team Rocket Returns, the 2004 expansion built around Team Rocket’s comeback and one of the earliest English sets to introduce Pokémon Star cards, giving even its commons a place in a famously dramatic ex-era release.
Card History
Team Rocket Returns includes two different Houndour cards in the main set, and this one is the #60 version with the Poké-Body Dark Lift, a neat ex-era design that rewards attaching Darkness Energy by making Houndour’s Retreat Cost free.
In-Game
Houndour itself is a Generation II Pokémon first introduced in Pokémon Gold and Silver, so seeing it featured in a Team Rocket-themed set fits the expansion’s roots in the Johto-era games where Team Rocket resurged.
Card History
Houndour made its anime debut in "Hour of the Houndour," an episode Bulbapedia notes as the first appearance of a Dark-type Pokémon in the animated series, which gives this little Fire-type card a real milestone connection for Johto fans.
Artist
This card was illustrated by Tomokazu Komiya, one of the Pokémon TCG’s most beloved stylists, whose offbeat, instantly recognizable artwork has made even low-rarity cards like this Houndour feel collectible far beyond binder-filler status.
