Fighting-Type Pokémon
Fighting is one of the 18 Pokémon types. Fighting-type Pokémon specialize in raw physical power, hitting Normal, Rock, Steel, Dark, and Ice hard, but their moves cannot touch Ghost-types.
Fighting-type Pokémon are weak to Flying, Psychic, and Fairy and resist Bug, Rock, and Dark. There are 73 Fighting-type Pokémon as of August 2026.

What beats Fighting-type Pokémon?
A pure Fighting-type Pokémon takes double damage from Flying, Psychic, and Fairy moves. It takes reduced damage from Bug, Rock, and Dark moves.
Remember that many Fighting-type Pokémon have a second type, which changes this list. A second type can add new weaknesses, cancel out an existing one, or turn a weakness into a four-times weakness when both types share it.
What are Fighting-types strong against?
Fighting moves are super effective against Normal, Ice, Rock, Dark, and Steel, dealing double damage to those types. They deal reduced damage to Poison, Flying, Psychic, Bug, and Fairy. They have no effect at all on Ghost.

Fighting-type history
Fighting is one of the 15 original types from Generation 1 (1996). From the start it was the natural answer to Normal-types, and later to the Dark and Steel types that arrived in Generation 2 (2000).
Its inability to damage Ghost-types has been a defining limitation since the first games.
